About

The Space Career Launchpad is the latest initiative by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space (DG DEFIS) aimed at enriching the skills landscape within the European space sector. This programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic achievements and practical, industry-relevant experience by facilitating internships and employment opportunities for university students and recent graduates keen to embark on careers within this dynamic field.
The Space Career Launchpad achieves this by offering students and young professionals the chance to work closely with leading companies and organisations within the space sector through its online careers platform. The initiative seeks to facilitate access for participants to the skills, knowledge, and insights necessary to excel in their future careers by providing an education directorate and financial support for interns, the “space entry bonus”. It is an opportunity to learn from experts, engage with cutting-edge projects, and understand the challenges and opportunities that define Europe’s space industry today.

Students and graduates benefit from:

Before launching the Space Career Launchpad, an extensive consultation was undertaken to gather insights and recommendations from industry representatives, academic institutions, and potential participants. This collaborative approach shaped the design and implementation of the scheme, ensuring it is well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of the space sector.

As the initiative moves forward, it continues to seek feedback and adapt, with the ambition of filling the current skills gap and inspiring the next generation of space industry professionals. Through this initiative, DG DEFIS is committed to fostering a vibrant, skilled, and innovative workforce that will propel the European space sector into a bright and promising future.
